What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that originated in Japan and is used to support relaxation and overall wellbeing.

It's often described as working with universal life force energy, and is designed to help the body move out of stress and into a more calm, balanced, and restorative state.

In my work, Reiki supports nervous system regulation, creating the conditions for your body to rest, reset, and restore. Reiki works gently and intuitively, helping to ease tension, shift patterns of stress, and support a greater sense of calm and clarity.

I am trained as a Reiki Master in both traditional Japanese Usui Reiki and Western methods. This allows me to bring together a grounded, structured approach with a more intuitive, responsive way of working, depending on what your body needs.

How does it work?

During a Reiki session, a practitioner channels energy to support your body's own healing processes. There is nothing you need to do. You simply rest while the session takes place.

It is not massage, it does not involve manipulation of the body, and you remain fully clothed throughout. It is quiet, still, and deeply restorative.

Sessions can be experienced in person or, just as effectively, remotely. Distance is not a barrier to Reiki because it works with energy rather than physical contact.

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki is not a medical treatment and does not diagnose or cure. What it can do is create the conditions your body needs to rest, regulate and recover.

People commonly come to Reiki for:

  • Stress and anxiety that will not shift

  • Exhaustion and burnout

  • Feeling emotionally flat or disconnected

  • Difficulty sleeping or switching off

  • A sense of being out of balance or not quite themselves

  • Nervous system support alongside other treatments or therapy

Is it backed by evidence?

Reiki is increasingly recognised as a valuable complementary therapy. It is used in some NHS settings, and a growing body of research supports its role in stress reduction and nervous system regulation.

It works alongside conventional medicine and does not interfere with any other treatment or medication.

Do I need to believe in it for it to work?

No. Many people come to their first session feeling sceptical and still leave noticing a shift. You do not need to hold any particular belief or understanding of how it works. You just need to be open to resting for a while.

What is the difference between Reiki and meditation?

Both support the nervous system and promote relaxation, but they work differently. Meditation asks you to actively settle and direct your mind. Reiki is entirely passive. You do not need to do anything at all. Many people find Reiki easier to access, particularly when their mind is too busy to meditate.

Who is it for?

Reiki is particularly well suited to people who feel chronically stressed, exhausted, or like their nervous system is stuck in overdrive. If you're carrying tension you can't seem to shift, struggling to switch off, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, Reiki can offer a real sense of relief and restoration.

You don't need any prior experience, and you don't need to be sure it will work. You just need to be open to resting for a while.

How does a remote session work?

All sessions are held online, so you can experience Reiki from the comfort of your own home. Distance is not a barrier to the work.

Before we begin, we'll have a short check-in so I understand where you're at. You then find a comfortable position, lying down or seated, somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed. I guide the session remotely while you simply rest. There's nothing you need to do.

Sessions typically last 30 minutes or 60 minutes, and finish with a brief reflection so you feel grounded and supported afterwards.

What do people commonly experience?

Everyone's experience is different, but here's what clients often share:

"I left feeling lighter than I had in years." Tamara

"I could feel the tension dissipating out of my chest during the session. I left feeling serene, like I was floating on air." Jody

"I felt an instant release and calm." Holly

"My mind quieter, and I became more aware of my own energy and emotions." Rebecca

Some people feel warmth, tingling, or a deep sense of stillness during the session. Others notice emotional shifts or feel more themselves in the days that follow. Occasionally people feel tired afterwards as the body continues to process, which is completely normal and usually passes quickly.

Reiki alongside coaching

Reiki can be experienced on its own, or combined with health coaching for a deeper level of support.

Many of the women I work with find that the two complement each other really well, coaching helps create change at the level of habits and lifestyle, while Reiki works more quietly beneath that, supporting the body's ability to rest, regulate, and recover.
